Library Checkout

Students are encouraged to explore their interests and build strong reading habits by checking out up to five books at a time. Whether they enjoy graphic novels, fantasy, mystery, sports stories, or nonfiction, having multiple books allows students to discover new genres, read at their own pace, and always have something exciting to read. Books may be borrowed for two weeks and renewed if additional time is needed.

Library Events & Programs

We offers a variety of programs designed to inspire a love of reading, strengthen research skills, and connect students with the wider literary community. Throughout the year, students have opportunities to participate in author visits, receive free books through literacy partnerships and special events, and engage in co-taught research lessons that support classroom learning. Library instruction focuses on information literacy, digital citizenship, and effective research practices, helping students become confident readers, critical thinkers, and lifelong learners.

Library Resources

The CHEC Library provides high school and middle school students with access to a wide range of print and digital resources to support learning, research, and recreational reading. Through DC Public Schools (DCPS), students can access library databases, eBooks, audiobooks, and research tools through Clever. Students are also encouraged to take advantage of resources available through the District of Columbia Public Library (DCPL), including the nearby Mt. Pleasant Library, where they can borrow books, access digital collections, attend free programs, and obtain a library card at no cost.
